Dean Bunce received his bachelor’s degree in Zoology from NC State in 1986. He enjoyed an long career in biotech and was Executive Vice President, Regulatory Affairs for over twenty five years with United Therapeutics Corp, retiring in 2024. During his over 35 year career in biotech, he led over thirty successful marketing applications and focused on orphan and rare diseases. He led the regulatory interactions with FDA to enable the first ever clinical trial with a xeno organ (xenokidney). He is President of Longleaf Regulatory Consulting. He is a member of the Wolfpack Club, the Wolfpack Investor Network, a lifetime member of the Alumni Association and a member of the University Club. Bunce was a founding College of Sciences Foundation Board representative where he served for eight years and was the lead for the Think and Do Extraordinary Campaign.

Bunce and his wife, Gail, support several local charities and she is a Foundation Board member of the Eagles Nest Foundation. The couple has scholarships at NC State and Meredith College and support many areas in both schools, as well as a passion for supporting study abroad. They have three children, Liza, an alum of NC State College of Sciences, Billy, pursuing a Masters in Public Health at Vanderbilt, and Alison, a graduate of Meredith College. Bunce’s father is a Civil Engineering alumnus.

Bunce and Billy are Eagle Scouts, and Bunce remains involved in Scouts as an Assistant Scoutmaster and Eagle Advisor.
