Lonnie Poole, a 1959 graduate of the NC State College of Engineering, is the founder and retired CEO and chairman of Waste Industries USA, a leading provider of solid waste and recycling collection services. Poole founded the Environmental Research and Education Foundation and served as director of its board.

Poole has served as chairman of the NC State University Foundation Board, the Board of Trustees of the Endowment Fund and the Dean’s Advisory Board of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Carol Johnson Poole attended Meredith University and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is president of the Lonnie and Carol Poole Family Foundation.

Lonnie and Carol Poole are co-chairs of the Campaign for NC State.
