NC State is one of the best universities in the country, providing a world-class education at a great value. Many assume that NC State’s tuition is low compared to its peers because the state makes up the difference. However, if the University only relied on state support and tuition for its funding, many of the outstanding programs and services that distinguish NC State from its peers would not exist. That is why each year we ask parents to help support the University through the NC State Parents’ Fund.
The Parents’ Fund was created in 1993, to give parents an opportunity to directly enhance their child’s experience, since then parents have contributed well over $1 million. Your gift to the Parents’ Fund will provide the “extras” that are not covered by tuition, but are important for student success and well being.
In the year ahead, you will receive a letter or a phone call from an NC State student inviting you to participate in the Parents’ Fund. We encourage you to make a gift at that time — your support is needed and greatly appreciated!
If you would like more information or if you would like to make a gift today, please visit www.ncsu.edu/annualgiving or call (919) 515-0562.
What the Parents’ Fund Supports
The Parents’ Fund provides critical dollars for a multitude of outstanding and far-reaching programs and services within Student Affairs. Below are just a few examples of where Parents’ Fund monies have been directed to in past years:
University Career Center
The University Career Center offers assistance to students with choosing majors and careers, developing resumes and cover letters, preparing for interviews, researching internships, and applying to graduate school.
Center for Student Leadership, Ethics, and Public Service
The Center for Student Leadership, Ethics, and Public Service provides unique learning opportunities for NC State students that teach the importance and value of service, responsible citizenship, and ethics. The Center delivers quality programs in a variety of formats: workshops, conferences, service projects, volunteer opportunities, and individual consultations.
Multicultural Student Affairs
The Department of Multicultural Student Affairs researches, designs, and implements unique programs that promote the pursuit of academic success, retention, and graduation of students, with an emphasis on African American, Native American, and Hispanic students. Many of the programs and services expand students’ cultural horizon while honoring their respective cultural experiences.
Campus recreation is an important aspect of the NC State student experience. Most NC State students take advantage of one or more of the many campus recreational opportunities available. The popular Carmichael Gymnasium, a 330,000 sq. ft facility, is home to two pools, racquetball courts, weight rooms, aerobic and dance studios, basketball courts, tennis courts, steam room, sauna, and an equipment room. In addition, there are 17 team and individual intramural sports and 41 club sports, which provide outstanding athletic and social opportunities.
Student Health Services
Student Health Services exists to provide affordable, accessible, and high quality primary health care to those eligible for services, and provide a comprehensive disease-prevention and health promotion program to the NC State community.
