Smedes and Rosemary York

2011-12 CHANCELLOR’S CIRCLE CO-CHAIRS

A Raleigh native, Smedes York earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University with High Honors in 1963. While at NC State, he played on the basketball team coached by the legendary Everett Case. From 1964-1966, he served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, receiving an Army Commendation Medal for his service in South Korea. He received an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters Degree from NC State in 2009. He also received the Watauga Medal and served as chair of the NC State University Board of Trustees.

Smedes has spent his professional career in real estate and construction and is Chairman of York Properties, Inc. and of related companies Prudential York Simpson Underwood and McDonald York Building Company.

Rosemary York graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is an active part of the NC State community serving as Co-Chair for the Gregg Museum Committee for the Raleigh Fine Arts Society and supporting the JC Raulston Arboretum.

Smedes and Rosemary are proud to serve as 2011-12 Co-Chairs of the Chancellor’s Circle. “We have been involved at NC State for many years and are excited about this new opportunity. We want to make a great University even greater. It is our belief that we can.”
